Sometime ago I decided it would be better to build a moderately powerful VM server instead of having many cheap PCs. This way it would take up a lot less space and consume less power. I build mine using second hand hardware, and named it Tesla.
Finally all my networking hardware, servers and UPS are in the same place. I also did some cable management, but since I’m trying to do this in an old cabinet it is quite difficult to make is both accessible and beautiful.
Ever wanted to connect to a VirtualBox VM via SSH, SCP or others and found out you couldn’t? This is because, by default you don’t have access to the ports of your VM. Today I’ll show you how you can enable port forwarding so you can easily connect to all your VMs.
Today we will take a new drive in Ubuntu, and format and partition it. I will be doing this under a VM, because it is easy to add or delete drives.

After bringing all pieces of furniture in the same place, we had to bolt them together. Afterwards, I also added LED lights to make working on the hardware easier. In the future I plan to make the lighting on each shelf individually controllable, that’s why all the LED strips have separate connectors.

So, since I got an old audio station on my desk, I wanted to be able to connect both the desk PC and another device (phone, laptop etc.) to the station without too much hassle. The best way to do this was a 3.5 mm audio switcher. Since after searching online I came up empty handed I decided to build one myself. This is the final result:
